An Art Statement from Jason Towne
I paint to express myself. The exciting mystery of making art has always been a reliable part of my life.
Painting brings a unique feeling of peace to me. The best way to describe this feeling is when watching a movie you know you love, but you haven’t seen it in a long time. Painting is that for me, fun, familiar, and rewarding. Occasionally my artwork gets a little dark when I’m in a sour mood. However, most of my work is usually upbeat.
I paint in two style genres (made up by me) for marketing purposes:
-
Graphic Abstraction: Abstractions incorporating the aesthetics of graphic arts, graphic design, and illustration.
-
Pop Art Adjacent: Bright, and bold paintings with recognizable imagery, but not necessarily related to any pop culture iconography.
My creative techniques involve painting crisp lines, exploring vibrant color fields, using custom designed stencils, and slapping bold brush strokes on canvas. Conversely, some of my layers get quite messy. Here’s where I introduce techniques like dripping, and splattering paint. This adds a sense of spontaneity and depth. These layers build, and accumulate to transform blank canvases into finished works of art. The painting process is a huge focus for me. You can see this on my instagram account @jasontowne
My art is inspired by a deep-seated desire to produce work that is fun, beautiful, and thought-provoking. My creative drive is based on self-expression that leads to better personal understanding. I guess my self-image is linked to painting forever.
My outside creative influences include the following artists:
Mark Rothko — Beautiful meditative color fields

Elizabeth Murray — Playful use of color, and form
Andy Warhol — Iconic pop art, and vivid color schemes

I work primarily with the following materials:

Oil and water-based paint pens

Through my fusion of materials and techniques, I aim to capture the essence of movement and stillness, inviting viewers into experience my artwork deeply.
